July 28, 2021 Storms
Western Itasca County
Just two days since my last chase, there was a risk of severe storms again, coming from the northwest. I had low expectations, but the intercept route was really easy, and it was after work, so I drove up to meet the storms. They came down the Avenue of Pines (MN Highway 46), and as the name indicates, there aren't many viewing opportunities for storms. Still, I found a field near Squaw Lake and was able to peek at things briefly before I had to escape back southeast. I wanted to make a stand at Winnie Dam, but the storm was too close to my location, so I kept going. I found a second spot to stop in the bog between Deer River and Winnie. By this time, the storms were weakening, but I had one last chance to photograph a shelf cloud. After this, I headed back home.
