MN/SD Chase
July 24, 2002
Scott Woelm, Shaun Kelly, his sister Brigid, and I drove west to a point just east of Watertown, SD
to catch some surface-based severe storms this day. To our disappointment, the storms were
a bit farther west than we anticipated. Scott and I, therefore, turned around and headed back
east to catch some elevated, CG-rich storms in the Twin Cities just after sunset. Shaun and
Brigid decided to continue westward for a red-eye chase to catch the
Salem, SD supercell (see link at bottom of page). Unfortunately, I was not set up to do after-dark
lightning photography, but I did catch some of the fauna of Dawson, MN earlier in the chase:
The cows of Dawson, MN.
Elephant.
