April 18, 2018 Touring

Lubbock, TX to Ruidoso, NM

Again, no storms were in the forecast for today, Day 2 of our storm tour, so we did some sightseeing.  We left Lubbock in the morning and headed west to Roswell, New Mexico where we stopped for lunch (Martin's Capitol Cafe) and a tour of the Alien Museum.

We continued west into the mountains because that's where the models showed the marginal risk for thunderstorms on Day 2.  We stopped in Ruidoso, New Mexico, which is a nice, quiet resort and ski town at this time of year because the ski season is finished by April, and the summer tourist season had not yet started.  We took a short hike before dinner and ate at Grill Caliente.  We spent the night at Hotel Ruidoso.

For electric driving, there were only campgrounds with NEMA 14-50 outlets in Lubbock.  It would have been possible to leave there with a full charge in the morning.  The 245 mile route would be possible at slow speeds and would be easier with charging spots at Roswell, but there were none listed there on Plugshare.  The hotel in Ruidoso had a Tesla destination charger supposedly capable of delivering 16 kW.
