Winnie to Leech Lake Storm

July 24, 2008

I chased northwest after a non-severe storm entering western Itasca County north of Lake Winnibigoshish. With an interesting looking hodograph, I thought I'd go out and get some structure on this storm. I set up on the south shore of Lake Winnibigoshish (Lake Winnie) and took a few stills, but the storm built to the west, and the main part of the updraft moved southward. Thus, I tried to get a view from the northern part of Leech Lake. The storm started to move southwestward and took its updraft farther away from me, so there was little I could see from Federal Dam, and I decided to drive back up to Bena near Lake Winnie then home. When I got to Bena, the sun was setting, so I stopped for a few pictures.
