May 12, 2020 LP Storm
Bellview, New Mexico
See Bill Reid's summary of the storm here.
We spent a fair bit of time today looking for initiation in the Texas panhandle. Instead, we got chased by a stable outflow boundary that was drifting slowly southwest. While we were there, we did have some fun with fairly large dust devils along is leading edge. We kept scanning the cumulus field for any larger congestus, but nothing dominated the sky.
Eventually, a larger cell developed well to the northwest. It was quite some distance away (maybe 100 miles?), but there was not much else around, so it became our target. It was evident the storm was rather LP (low precipitation) in nature, but we kept after it, and we soon arrived near Bellview, NM. However, the storm was slowly weakening. Before it disappeared entirely, it gave us some nice photography.
