Frosty Morning Hike II

January 15, 2004

This morning, I drove a few miles to the base of Horsetooth Mountain (at over 7200 feet, a higher location than yesterday) in an attempt to actually get above the inversion this time. The morning temperature was in the single digits, and I estimated from the text file from the morning sounding that I probably had about 300 feet to spare. It seems like I actually had 500 feet or more, but in my haste to leave, I forgot to bring my watch with me (which has an altimeter function on it). Above the inversion, temperature was around freezing, but it still felt cold at the top of Horsetooth Mountain because of the wind, blowing up to 40 mph.
