Texas Panhandle

April 21, 2001

Once again, the significant tornadoes were in Kansas, but this time we knew that from the start. We opted for a slightly closer target in the TX panhandle. It turned out that the Kansas target would only have been another hour's drive each way, and the payoff would have been much larger by going north. Lesson learned: just go.

This bell-shaped updraft on the northern flank of one storm was the best we'd see this day. The dryline was retreating, and the initial storms died, with newer storms developing farther west, out of our one-day range.
