May 15, 2019 Storms
Colorado and Nebraska
We began the day in Norton, Kansas. There wasn't really much of a risk for anything other than high-based storms in eastern Colorado, so we headed that way in the morning and had lunch in Idalia, Colorado at the Grainery, which is a nice steak place. When we came out, there were a few scattered cumulus in the area. We drifted west to Joes and hung out at a nice park (Grassroots Community Building), watched a few birds (western kingbirds) and waited for the clouds to grow into thunderstorms. That happened within an hour, so we saddled up and headed northeast toward the largest storm.
We got underneath the base and stayed with it until it got into Nebraska, following it up U.S. 6/34. We stopped at an old, abandoned truck scale in Perry, NE (a very small place) and watched the sunset as the part of the line of storms we were near was weakening. We drove into McCook and stayed at the Cobblestone Inn.
