April 23, 2018 Storms

Northeastern New Mexico

We began the day in Amarillo, Texas and, after breakfast at Cracker Barrel, we drove to Clayton, New Mexico and had a coffee at Crossroads Coffee Mill.  We continued to Des Moines, New Mexico and ate lunch there.  While we had lunch, some storms developed to our west.  They were definitely not very strong and only had an occasional lightning bolt.  We drove to Capulin National Monument and hiked around on top of Capulin volcano while that storm dissipated.  Some others slowly built to our south, so we drove back through Clayton and then to Tucumcari, where we spent the night at the Roadrunner Lodge and had dinner at the Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant.

Electric vehicle driving: there was a campground in Clayton with a NEMA 14-50 and another campground at Capulin.  Several hours of charging would have been necessary to make the trip.  There is a Supercharger at Tucumcari.
