June 1, 2025 Auroras

Itasca County

A series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) impacted Earth, bringing auroras covering at least the northern half of the sky. A full moon and a significant amount of wildfire smoke obscured the auroras, however. I went north of town in an attempt to document what there was, but it was challenging. I decided it wasn't worth a lot of effort because the contrast was so low, so I went a few miles north of town on Highway 38, stopped on the side of the road, took a couple pictures (one looking straight up, the other looking north), then went back home. Here are the best of my pictures.
