May 4, 2025 Auroras
Balsam, MN
The solar wind was still blowing pretty fast with speeds reaching 750 km/s during the day and settling down to 650 km/s in the evening. The moon was at its first quarter (half-illuminated), so the horizon was a bit bright to see dim auroras like we had. Bz was near neutral, so the auroras were fairly dim and confined to the northern horizon. The nicest thing about this image is that the water was exceptionally calm, and the star reflections in the water were really sharp.
Barely a hint of green along the northern horizon, but look at those star reflections in the water! |
