May 3, 2025 Auroras
Grand Rapids, MN
I was out with friends in the evening, so I didn't see the early show, but I went to bed early then woke up around 3:30 AM. I saw that others had seen the auroras earlier in the night, and given that the solar wind speed was approaching 700 km/s, and with Bz dropping southward again, I knew the auroras would still be out. I walked out onto my driveway and could see that the northern horizon looked a little bright, so I hopped in my car and headed for the closest place that was dark. It would not be long before twilight encroached on the northeastern horizon, so I had to go someplace close. I chose Peterson Road on the northern boundary of town.
