December 14, 2023 Auroras
Wabana Lake
Had a nice show over Wabana Lake. Not only were the auroras active, but the Geminid meteor shower was at it's peak. The meteor shower was probably the most active I've seen. There were periods when I saw several per minute. The auroras were actually not particularly far above the northern horizon, but any show is great for December! My total sightings in December 2023 match the total from all previous Decembers I've kept track of, from 2011 through 2022.
One fun feature of the evening was a fox that I heard in the woods beyond the eastern shore. It turns out this fox was out on the lake before I knew it was nearby. It was quiet when it was on the lake, and it stopped long enough for my relatively slow shutter speed to not show any blur.
