December 2, 2023 Auroras
Mount Itasca in Coleraine, MN
After a show in the morning, the solar wind looked really good for auroras this evening. I didn't really have time to dedicate to aurora photography because I was making snow at Mount Itasca. Nevertheless, I decided to bring my camera along and set it up to take a timelapse.
First shot of the auroras as I set up the camera to record a timelapse. |
A bright substorm erupts. |
Here is a multi-colored display. The more violet color on the upper left is from sunlight interacting with the upper atmosphere. |

Some bright reds appeared. |
Some bright columns continue after the main show. |
Looks like there could be some "dunes" auroras in the picture. |
Last shot of the bright auroras, around 10:30 PM. |
