September 26, 2023 Colorful Morning Auroras
Prairie Lake
I awoke at my characteristic time between 2:30 AM and 4:30 AM and was about to spend the normal time awake at night for a couple hours, but I checked the solar wind conditions and found things to be rather interesting. I decided to go to Prairie Lake to shoot. Indeed, the auroras were there, and there were dim blobs covering the sky to the north and nearly overhead. I photographed until the beginning stages of astronomical twilight.
One of my early shots showing auroras nearly overhead. |
Brightening on the horizon. Atr the same time, the incoming sunlight affected the color of the auroras at the top. |
The brighest stage at about 5:19 AM. |
The auroras fade and twilight encroaches. |
