August 9, 2022 Auroras
Ovando, Montana
For the second night in a row, I was treated to a display of auroras in Montana. It was my third sighting of auroras in Montana this year. This time, I remembered that the ranch had an observation deck upstairs, so that's where I went. First, I took a couple pictures through the clearing in the trees. The observation deck did not look as straight through the clearing as the lower deck did. I then went upstairs and got some wider shots. There were a couple Perseid meteors, but most of what you see in these shots is satellites. They are everywhere in the sky.
Auroras over the Blackfoot River. I think the bright streak is most likely a Perseid meteor. |

A much wider view, capturing some of the Milky Way. The streaks here are satellites. |
The auroras fade, so this was my last shot. Two more satellites moving across the shot. |
