March 1, 2021 Auroras
Southern Koochiching County
Another high speed stream of solar wind came past Earth. It was a bit cloudy in Grand Rapids, and less cloudy to the north, so I drove out of the clouds into southern Koochiching County. I used the same spot that I used the previous weekend. This was the last weekend of Minnesota Youth Ski League, so I could not stay out too late. I photographed the auroras, waiting for a substorm but then realized these were not likely to erupt in a substorm. They were pulsing, instead.
When I saw Bz (solar wind magnetic field) decrease and turn north, I set the camera in the back of the car and continued to do a time lapse as I was driving south. The auroras faded out on the way home.
