March 31, 2020 Auroras
Itasca County, MN
A high speed stream of solar wind, along with a big of a southward-pointing magnetic field in that solar wind stream, created conditions for auroras, including a brief substorm around 10:45 PM. This was the first substorm I had seen in quite a while.
The substorm began around 10:44. |
The peak of brightness a few minutes later. |
By 10:55, things were starting to dim a bit, but the structure persisted until about 11:00 or so. |
