February 21, 2020 Weak Auroral Glow (barely)
Aitkin and Itasca Counties, Minnesota
Bz was generally south, up to -6 nT in the evening, so I brought my camera along on a snowmobile trip from Sturgeon Lake to Grand Rapids. I really expected to see an auroral arc along the northern horizon, but I could not pick one out. VIIRS imagery showed there should be auroras, but I could see, at best, a hint of green along the horizon.

Just north of Palisade, MN, looking north at 10:38 PM. The light pollution on the horizon is Grand Rapids. |

Just north of Grand Rapids, MN, looking north at 1:00 AM. There should be a brighter band of auroras here, but there is barely a green tint on the horizon. |

VIIRS imagery from 0625 UTC, about 35 minutes before my shot from just north of Grand Rapids. |
