January 5, 2019 Auroras
Chippewa National Forest
A high speed stream of solar wind brought auroras to northern Minnesota (first of the new year)! Since mostly clear skies are somewhat rare this time of year, and the moon phase was new, it was a good night to get out and shoot. Now that we're in solar minimum, auroras are less frequent, so it's nice to get out and view them when they show up.
This was the peak of the display at 10:10 PM. I had to cross through a bit of slush on the lake to get to this spot. |

Around 9:50 PM, the horizon started to brighten. |
