July 2, 2017 Auroras
Grand Rapids, MN
Solar wind conditions became favorable for auroras (high speed solar wind stream). I was not feeling particularly energetic after a ten mile run, so I decided to stay close to home. I hopped on my bicycle and rode into the Forest History Center. It was early July, so the fireflies were out. They added to a couple of my photos that I took from the trail.
I continued to the entrance road where I saw a nice bank of moon-illuminated fog in the bog. I stopped to take a couple pictures of that.
Finally, I went to the dock that looks upstream a bit toward Cohasset. There, I watched as the auroras intensified, and a nice little substorm took place right before the moon set.
