August 28, 2015 Auroral Oval
Lake Winnibigoshish
I'm not sure why I drove so far on a night when I knew the sky was smoky and the moon rather full. It probably was the clouds in Grand Rapids. I drove northwest to get to the clear skies that were moving in, hoping I would be able to take a few pictures then quickly head home. That happened, but I could barely see the auroral oval, and the skies cleared in Grand Rapids before I returned home. I could have gotten to bed sooner and gotten aurora pictures if I had stayed home.

Can you see the auroral oval? Maybe not because the sky is smoky and the moon is bright. |

Can you see the auroral oval? This is a wider angle, more highly processed shot. |
