August 9, 2015 Storms and Auroras
Grand Rapids, MN
During the afternoon, Grand Rapids had its typical miss by thunderstorms around the area. One storm developed west-southwest of us then split, with one storm moving northeast and missing us to the north and the other missing us to the south. A line of storms persisted into the night to our south, so when I saw the Milky Way aligned in that direction, I decided to go to a south-facing lake access and take a few shots. That happened to be at the Pokegama Golf Course just a couple miles to the south.
Bz was also pointing south, so I figured the auroras might make an appearance, and indeed they did! I went north of town for the auroras because of the waning moon. The night sky was pretty dark, and I did not want the city lights to spoil that.
