May 20, 2015 Auroras
Pokegama Lake, Grand Rapids, MN
A high speed stream of solar wind flowed past Earth starting about 24 hours earlier, but cloudy weather and an ill-timed northward excursion of Bz kept the auroras relatively quiet. Tonight, the skies were clear, the Bz a bit south (around -4 to -5 nT), and the solar wind speed was over 500 km/s. That brought the auroras out.
First appearance of auroras at Tioga Beach. |
A slightly different arrangement. |
This is at the Loon Lake landing. I call this picture "Gigawatt". |
The water reflections are amazing on Sherry's Arm of Pokegama Lake |
