November 15, 2014 Auroras
Grand Rapids, MN
Once again, Bz tipped a little south (-5 nT or so), and solar wind speed remained above 400 km/s. These conditions have been typical throughout the fall, making the primary constraint on auroras a clear, moon-free night. The solar wind conditions always seemed sufficient for at least a northern horizon glow. That really seems to have been the most common form of auroras this season with relatively few inactive nights and no really big shows.
This was the first night this season in which I shot over frozen lakes. There was ice over McKinney Lake, Pughole Lake, and Moose Lake.
