The Setup

An upper level trough had moved through Oklahoma the previous day, and today, the area was between shortwave troughs. Not much was expected for thunderstorms, and SPC only had a marginal risk of severe storms in parts of west Texas.

The Chase

We began in Oklahoma City by having our Tour 1 orientation at 11:00 AM. By noon, we were headed southwest on I-44. We stopped at John & Cooks Real Pit BBQ in Lawton for lunch. From there, we spotted cumulus congestus to our southwest. We chased some small storms then headed to Shamrock, TX to stay at the Sleep Inn & Suites.

Wrap-up

Pretty satisfying to get the lightning shot at night. I didn't expect much, but we got some photogenic storms.
