Linear Storms near Hinckley, MN

July 27, 2010

I thought the forecast hodographs looked pretty good in northwestern Wisconsin. My initial chase plan was to go southeast to Hinckley, MN and wait for a storm to develop somewhere in that vicinity and take me into Wisconsin. However, I had a feeling storms wouldn't be discrete when I had northwesterly winds on the north side of the outflow boundary as I was driving south through Cromwell and Kettle River, MN. Pre-tornadic boundaries usually have east winds to their north.
